Meet Our Summer Student, Sierra Hardy!
Sarah Leamon Law Group is pleased to have a wonderful student join our office for the summer! Sierra Hardy has joined our team and we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce her.
Sierra loves criminal law. She is a passionate advocate. Sierra recently finished her second year at Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law and anticipates graduating from law school in May of 2020. Prior to law school, Sierra obtained her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Arizona State University.
Sierra’s interest in criminal defence work comes from her desire to treat others with empathy and assist those who are not always treated well in society. She is passionate about many criminal law-related matters, such as problems concerning women’s issues and Indigenous overrepresentation in the criminal justice system. She has volunteered with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton and the Edmonton Community Legal Centre to further that passion. Sierra has always had an interest in criminal defence work and remembers pledging to practice criminal law during her grade six graduation.
In addition to her position with us at Sarah Leamon Law Group, Sierra is volunteering with University of British Columbia Law Students’ Legal Advice Program at the Carnige Centre in East Hastings. She expects that she will be exposed to many different areas of the law during her time there, including criminal defence, small claims, employment, residential tenancy, consumer protection and immigration.

An Edmonton native, Sierra moved to Arizona to attend the fifth best nationally ranked Criminal Justice program in the United States. In this program, Sierra took law related classes such as: Domestic Violence, Death Investigations, Corrections, Gender & Criminal Justice, and Substantive Criminal Law. While living abroad, Sierra was very involved in her sorority, held a job at a women’s resource Centre, and enjoyed the Arizona sun. After graduating, Sierra took the year off before law school to backpack through South East Asia and Europe. Sierra’s favorite countries she visited were Bhutan, Nepal and Croatia.
During her second year of law school, Sierra was co-chair of the TRU Law student’s conference titled “Pursuing Progress: Transforming Law in the 21st Century.” Sierra and her co-chairs were tasked with raising $30,000 and recruiting some of the top legal minds from across Canada. These speakers included the Honourable Justice Marshall Rothstein, Chief Justice Christopher Hinkson of the BC Supreme Court, and distinguished criminal and immigration lawyer Dennis Edney.
Sierra is currently president of the TRU Women and Law Society where she is responsible for organizing events aimed at addressing women’s issues, such as female-led career panels, movie nights for students, and networking events. She is also a member of the TRU Criminal Law Club, TRU Law Golf Club and TRU Law Events Planning Committee.
In her spare time, Sierra enjoys travelling, skiing, recreational volleyball and taking her dog Penny to the park.
