Taran Saund B.A., LL.B
ASSOCIATE LAWYER
Taran Saund began his articling period with our firm in January 2021. He was called to the bar on August 25, 2022. He works as an associate lawyer with our office, focusing on criminal law and traffic matters.
Taran was born in the District of Matsqui, which has since been incorporated with Abbotsford and was raised in Surrey, British Columbia. Taran completed his legal education at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, where he obtained an LL.B in July 2019. Prior to his formal legal education, Taran completed his Bachelor of Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Taran’s interest in criminal law arose at an early age and led him to pursue a degree in Criminology for his undergraduate studies. Taran focused his course load primarily towards social justice issues in order to understand the plight of marginalized groups in Canada. He used the knowledge from his undergraduate degree and applied it in his role as a Student Advisor at the Free Legal Advice Group (FLAG) at the University of Birmingham, where he primarily worked with minorities who could not afford traditional legal advice. At FLAG, Taran worked alongside professionally trained lawyers to help research and provide legal advice primarily in criminal and family law matters.
Taran’s exposure to the justice system both locally and abroad has provided him with opportunities to work with individuals who come from various backgrounds. This gives Taran a very unique perspective, as those interactions provide a wealth of knowledge to pull from when presenting problem-solving techniques in tough situations. His energetic and outgoing personality ensures that clients can be confident that he will work diligently in their defence. He is naturally a very empathetic and compassionate person and is able to channel that when working with clients. He understands that dealing with the criminal justice system can be one of the most serious and troubling times for an individual, and Taran will make every effort to ensure this process is as least problematic as possible.
Taran is also fluent in Punjabi and has ample experience communicating with primarily Punjabi-speaking individuals of all ages.
